Gaetano Berardi has suggested that he wants to start his coaching career in England and remains in close contact with Carlos Corberan after their time spent together at Leeds United.
Leeds promotion hero Gaetano Berardi has given an interview to Area Coach in Italy in which he discussed a number of topics in depth, including playing under Marcelo Bielsa.
Berardi is now 34 years of age. He is now playing for Swiss side Bellinzona. He has captained the side in their last few games. However, it appears that he is already preparing for the next stage of his career.
The defender explained that he would like to get into coaching, working particularly with young players. And when asked where he would like to start his career, he suggested that a return to England would appeal.
He also shared how he remains in contact with Carlos Corberan.

“I would very much like to start in England, where the tasks are more 360 ° in the managerial aspects than in other countries. In the English minor leagues there are many young former footballers who have had the chance to emerge despite the lack of experience, elsewhere it is more difficult,” he told Area Coach.
“I currently follow a lot the current coach of [West Brom], who in my years in Leeds was one of Marcelo’s collaborators and, previously, was coach of the U23 of Leeds. I talk to him a lot, he asked me a lot about De Zerbi, even before he moved to Brighton, and from him I learned a lot about the figure of the coach and the collaborator, specifically.”
Berardi was someone who set the standard during his time at Elland Road. His attitude was one of the reasons why he was loved so much by the fanbase. So it would be no surprise if he proved to be an excellent coach, particularly of young players.
It is interesting that he still speaks to Corberan. Of course, Corberan was heavily linked with the Leeds job after Jesse Marsch departed earlier this year.
Corberan put any speculation to bed by signing a new contract with West Brom. But given his links to Leeds, his name is likely to be in the frame whenever the job comes up in future.
Perhaps Corberan will be the man to offer Berardi his start in coaching.
But there is no doubt that many Leeds fans would love to see Berardi back at Elland Road in a coaching capacity at some stage in the future – perhaps with Pablo Hernandez making a return also…
