Leeds United were considering their own manager’s future not long ago, but now a former player could land a major gig.

The 49ers made the decision to remain with Daniel Farke at Leeds going into the Premier League.

It was almost quite shocking that the club were even thinking about the possibility of letting the German go, but it came very close.

Thankfully, Paraag Marathe admired Farke’s belief in what was a key reason for the Whites retaining him.

One former player could’ve potentially been a candidate after his success as a manager, but now it seems as though a new job in the Championship could be waiting.

Former Leeds United star Robbie Keane is now a candidate for Middlesbrough job

On Wednesday, it was announced that former Man United player Michael Carrick had been sacked by Middlesbrough.

This came after Boro’s poor form at the back end of the Championship season, missing out on the playoffs in the process.

Carrick praised Farke’s work at Leeds as the former Boro boss clearly knew what he was up against in a formidable Whites team.

With Carrick’s former employers now looking for the perfect replacement, former Leeds striker Robbie Keane has come under their radar.

This has been reported by talkSPORT journalist, Alex Crook, who claims that Keane is one of the contenders for the Middlesbrough job and will fight off competition from the likes of Jon Dahl Tomasson and Rob Edwards.

Leeds hero Keane is becoming an exciting manager

It comes as no surprise that the Irishman is linked with such a major role.

Middlesbrough are looking to get out of the second tier for the first time in what will be nine seasons next campaign, and Keane could be the ideal man for the job.

In his current role, the former Whites striker won the title with Hungarian side Ferencváros, and Keane was dubbed ‘amazing’.

The 44-year-old has a very promising future as a manager, and the Boro job could be the making of him as a coach.

Who knows, if all things work out, Keane could be at the helm at Elland Road one day.
