Leeds United were linked with a move for Manchester United left-back Brandon Williams earlier this week.
According to the Independent, Leeds are considering a move for the 22-year-old this summer as they look to strengthen their options on the left side of their defence.
Williams has worked under Leeds boss Daniel Farke before earlier in his career, with the 46-year-old having signed him for Norwich City two years ago.
He is set to be allowed to leave Man United permanently this summer after falling out of favour at Old Trafford, with just one year remaining on his deal.
However, if Leeds are indeed keen on further bolstering their left-back options after the arrival of Sam Byram, they would be better suited signing Williams’ Man United teammate Alvaro Fernandez.
Leeds should move for Man United left-back Fernandez over Williams
Fernandez spent last season on loan at Preston North End in the Championship in what was his first full season in senior football.
However, he adapted seamlessly to the demands of first team football, making 42 appearances in all competitions and registering six assists.
With Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia already in front of him at Man United, regular minutes will again be hard to come by under Erik ten Hag this season and so given his age, they may look to loan him out again.
Unlike Williams, Fernandez is naturally left-footed and so would give Leeds a better balance down the left, while his ability in the final third is already beyond that of his teammate.
Leo Hjelde is currently Leeds’ first choice left-back, though there is no doubt he will need some cover and competition in that position and a loan deal for Fernandez could be perfect to help free up finances for positions elsewhere.
