‘Finer details’: £7m Leeds man shares what Daniel Farke is doing to take him to ‘next level’

Ethan Ampadu believes Daniel Farke’s decision to play him in one position at Leeds United can take him to the ‘next level’.

Ampadu was speaking in an interview with BBC Sport on the first international break of the season with Wales, where he was asked about his start to life at Leeds.

The 22-year-old has slotted in seamlessly at Leeds after becoming the first signing of the San Francisco 49ers Enterprises era, joining from Chelsea for £7 million in July.

Having played every minute of every game in league and cup, Ampadu has already established himself as a crucial player under Farke in that holding midfield role.

Ampadu had arrived with a little uncertainty around him as to whether he would play in defence or midfield, having flip-flopped between both during his career.

Ampadu says Farke decision can take him to ‘next level’

Speaking ahead of Wales’ friendly with South Korea, Ampadu believes playing in one position under Farke can take him to the ‘next level’ in his career.

He said: “I am grateful for all the loan moves I did. The years at Chelsea I was there I learned a lot and developed which is why you go out on loan. Now I am settled somewhere, hopefully I can play in one position and concentrate one position and it’s just taking everything I have learned in the past and putting that together now.

“It’s more like the finer details, people know I can play in different positions and I will always feel comfortable in different positions but I think when you do get to play one position every game, every training session, you pick up the finer little details which can help take you to the next level.”

While versatility is a good trait to have for a footballer, sometimes it can work against players as they struggle to really nail down a position in the team.

Ampadu has now finally found a permanent home where he can regularly play his best role in holding midfield, and the benefits can already be seen as he continues to get better and better with each game at Leeds.
