Crysencio Summerville was absent from Leeds United’s FA Cup draw with Plymouth Argyle today.
The Whites were held to a 1-1 draw by their fellow Championship opponents who have not yet won on the road all season.
Jaidon Anthony – who replaced Summerville on the left this afternoon – opened the scoring in a dominant first half, but a lacklustre display after the break saw Leeds earn the worst possible result. Leeds will now face two trips to Plymouth next month, as well as Bristol City and Swansea.
Aside from the already injured trio Dan James, Archie Gray and Pascal Struijk, Summerville was the only regular first team member who was absent from the squad completely.
Daniel Farke has now shared the real reason Summerville had no involvement in his post-match interview, amid reports before the game that he was simply rested.
Summerville missing due to slight injury
He said: “Gray out, James out, and Summerville felt problems with his adductor. Group not too big. All players available in the group. One spot there, decided for third goalkeeper. If you have games with two stoppers it’s not a problem.”
Despite a decent goal and performance from Anthony, Leeds missed Summerville massively today as there is no one in the squad who can replicate what he does every week.
However, and although an FA Cup replay is the last result Leeds will have wanted, it was the right decision for Summerville to be rested as they cannot afford to have him out for a prolonged period.
Summerville has 12 goals and seven assists this season and with James already set to miss the next couple of weeks, it would be detrimental if they were both to be out at the same time.
In any case, hopefully he is not out for too long and Summerville is back in contention when Leeds return to league action next Friday at Bristol City.
