Ben Parker says he loved the fact Leeds United striker Joel Piroe celebrated against his former side Swansea City last night.
Piroe took just four minutes to get on the scoresheet against the club he left to join Leeds in August, finishing off an incisive through ball from Crysencio Summerville for his seventh goal of the season.
In the context of the game, that goal was a crucial one with Swansea having taken the lead inside a minute when a mix-up at the back led to Jamie Paterson chipping Illan Meslier.
While Swansea fans voiced their discontent across social media about Piroe’s celebration, Parker on the other hand, thought it was refreshing to see.
Speaking on the latest episode of the LS11 Podcast, Parker says it was a ‘fantastic’ sight even despite everything Piroe did for the club in his two years in South Wales.
Piroe puts on a show against old club
Parker claimed jokingly that players celebrating against their old club is something that is not seen often enough in football and so was buzzing to see Piroe did it.
“With Piroe, I love the fact that he celebrated. Not a lot of players do against their old club, it’s like: ‘A little bit of respect, they did so much for me’. Nah, rubbish all that, get celebrating like Joel Piroe did. Fantastic to see.”
Piroe was not the only former Swan to get on the scoresheet last night. Dan James, who left South Wales in 2019, netted Leeds’ third goal of the evening, and also wheeled away in celebration.
The 24-year-old reserved one of, if not his best performance of the season for against his former side, with his link-up play behind the striker looking very sharp.
After a bit of a barren spell, Piroe now actually has two goals in his last three appearances and so hopefully he can continue to go on a bit of a run.
