Leeds United will be looking to continue their eight-game unbeaten streak in matches to come and have now been handed a big boost towards that.

Leeds are doing well under Daniel Farke this season and their current position in the Championship explains that to full effect.

Norwich City are a side going steady in the Championship this season sitting just outside the playoffs, but have now taken a major blow.

Championship top scorer and Canaries attacker, Borja Sainz, has been suspended for six matches after admitting to spitting at Sunderland’s Chris Mepham in December.

The Spaniard has 15 goals in the second tier this season and has proven to be one of the players of the season, although Nigel Redfearn favours Dan James in terms of the best attacker in the Championship.

Something has appeared regarding the ban that works out in the favour of Leeds.

Norwich’s Borja Sainz to miss Leeds United game after six-match ban

Leeds will face Harrogate Town in a Yorkshire clash in the FA Cup on Saturday and is part of a busy schedule for Daniel Farke’s side.

This is adding to their upcoming games as Leeds face Sheffield Wednesday in their next Championship game and soon after, Norwich.

Ultimately meaning that Leeds won’t come up against Sainz who has been integral for Johannes Thorup this season.

Sainz did issue an apology via the Norwich club channels regarding the incident saying he takes “full responsibility” and “deeply regrets” what he did.

Sainz’s absence may not be a boost to Leeds after all

Sainz has been a menace for the Canaries this season and despite not scoring since November this has handed Leeds a big boost going into the fixture.

Farke’s side will want to right their wrongs from Leeds’ 3-3 draw against Hull City and a certain player might be happy he won’t have to face Sainz’s goalscoring form, after Illan Meslier’s horror show in Hull.

However, despite Sainz’s form this season, he never quite seemed to get it right against Leeds in the four meetings between the sides.

Borja Sainz’s match ratings against Leeds United last season
Norwich 1-1 Leeds – Oct 16.0
Leeds 4-0 Norwich – May 166.8
Norwich 0-0 Leeds – May 126.3
Leeds 1-0 Norwich – Jan 246.4

Leeds will be happy Sainz’s absence is something less to worry about, but they will have to focus on their performance to triumph over Norwich.
