‘Exploring’: What Leeds have been doing to prepare for summer transfer window – journalist

Leeds United have been speaking to agents and working on a list of targets ahead of kicking their summer transfer window into gear.

That is according to Yorkshire Evening Post journalist Graham Smyth, who wrote in a Q&A session how Leeds have already been laying the ground work on potential deals to hit the ground running once a manager is appointed.

The transfer window officially opened for business today but as of yet, links to potential signings have been few and far between for Leeds.

Instead, most of the noise surrounding the club has been on the ownership situation and the search for a new manager, with the former having been all but completed last Friday, and the latter expected to follow next week.

With just over two weeks until pre-season, Leeds can really now start to switch their attention towards a rebuild of the squad.

Smyth details Leeds transfer work

Despite the majority of the focus having been elsewhere, that has not stopped Leeds from completely neglecting the work that needs doing on incomings.

In fact, according to Smyth, it has been quite the opposite with ‘weekly meetings’ having been held despite the exit of Victor Orta.

He said: “As for players, there are targets they have worked on, lists have been drawn up and agents spoken to by the recruitment team still in place.

“Victor Orta and close lieutenants have departed but there remains a core of scouts and recruitment staff who have held weekly meetings with Angus Kinnear to talk potential summer targets.

“The final decisions would need to go through any new manager and, you would think, anyone coming in to head up recruitment. They’ll have their own ideas.

“These things will presumably have been discussed in interviews, allowing Leeds to begin exploring possibilities for the eventuality of employing various candidates.”

This is certainly positive to hear as Leeds have an awful lot of work to do on the squad, both in terms of incomings and outgoings.

As soon as a manager is through the doors at Elland Road it is imperative players begin to follow so that they have a full pre-season of gelling with the team.

And in truth, it does sound like that will be the case so hopefully it won’t be too long until the work really starts.
