Leeds United are expecting a new manager to be appointed next week.
That is according to the Yorkshire Evening Post, who report the arrival of a new manager will then allow the club to start work on rebuilding the squad, as well as the ‘restructuring of their football operations’.
Leeds have been conducting interviews with potential candidates this week after the green light on San Francisco 49ers Enterprises’ full buyout was given on Friday.
Brendan Rodgers, who was believed to be 49ers priority target, is no longer in the running for the role, instead favouring a return to his old club Celtic.
Daniel Farke and Carlos Corberan now appear to be the main two in the fold, with the former having ‘impressed’ in initial discussions with the club.
Leeds seeking swift appointment
Initially, it had been reported that Leeds were keen to make an appointment this week but it looks as though it will now go into next, potentially due to the decision by Rodgers.
Leeds need to brush that off quickly, though, and move quickly onto other targets. Farke and Corberan are both excellent contingency plans based on their track record in the Championship.
With the transfer window officially opening today, and pre-season less than three weeks away, next week is the very latest they can afford to wait for an appointment.
Leeds still do not have a director of football in place and so work on new signings cannot happen until a manager is there to give the final say-so.
Once a manager is brought on, though, it feels as if the rest of the building blocks will fall into place relatively quickly.
