David Brooks was linked with a move to Leeds earlier this month but any suggestion of a move from Bournemouth to Yorkshire had quietened down. However, Leeds are still lurking for his signature.

That is according to journalist Graeme Bailey, who reports that Brooks remains on the radar at Elland Road as we enter the last few days of the winter window. Brooks is struggle to start under Andoni Iraola.

The 26-year-old star has started just five of 17 outings in all competitions this season for Bournemouth. It saw Leeds linked with the Wales star earlier in the window. Focus has switched to defensive additions.

But the interest in Brooks has not subsided. Indeed, Phil Hay reported this week that Leeds are still keen on the former Sheffield United man – and a move could happen late on this month. Bailey commented.

The transfer expert has told LeedsUnited.News that Brooks was available at the start of the window, and was then unavailable. Bailey agrees a move could occur towards the end of the January window.

“Brooks is a strange one because he was available and now he’s not. I think he’ll come down to the last few days of the window. Leeds have an interest there. But with Farke, he’s clever – he’s not just bringing players in for players sake,” Bailey told LeedsUnited.News as the window edges closer to the deadline.

“There’s a reason Leeds sent Sam Greenwood to Middlesbrough, he’s a top player but he’s not getting in. Leeds are being very careful, Farke is very good at assembling the squad, keeping the camaraderie. Eager not to disturb the status,” the journalist added, when discussing if Brooks could end up at Leeds.

Graeme Bailey: Leeds United could make late David Brooks move

Leeds needed a no.10 in the summer and tried to sign Nadiem Amiri, Matt O’Riley, and plenty more. But it never materialised. Since, Joel Piroe has dropped back form his natural position as a centre-forward.

Georginio Rutter in the last few weeks, has been used there. But it is the one position in attack that we lack depth. Focus will be on a new defender or two, but if the opportunity arises, a new 10 could join.

Brooks could be that player. Clearly admired at Elland Road, Brooks has impressed over the years in the Championship – having a hand in 20 goals in 69 games. Eddie Howe said Brooks is “very intelligent”.
