‘Excited’: Radrizzani makes new statement just days after Leeds were relegated

Andrea Radrizzani has released a statement after his takeover of Sampdoria was finally rubber stamped last night, but there was still no mention of Leeds United.

Radrizzani’s purchase of the Italian side was officially confirmed late last night via the club website, with the 48-year-old speaking to Gianluca Di Marzio upon its completion.

Talks had been ongoing for almost two weeks and at one stage on Tuesday, an agreement did not look possible, though Radrizzani was able to thrash out the terms of the agreement following a second shareholder meeting.

On his purchase, he said: “It was a real battle, but we can finally say that we made it. We are nothing short of excited to be able to announce that we have completed the acquisition of this extraordinary club.

“The history and the coat of arms of Samp are saved and my happiness I think is that of all the people who were suffering for these colours. My thanks at this moment goes especially to all those people who have worked
relentlessly to ensure that this agreement was reached a fair conclusion.

“And in particular I have to send a huge thank you to Matteo (Manfredi n.d.r.) and to the lawyer De Gennaro. Without them all this would not have been possible. From today we turn the page and I personally don’t see time to get to work.”

Radrizzani closer to Leeds exit door

With the takeover of Sampdoria now finally done, the question as to what happens at Leeds now remains, with Radrizzani having remained radio silent since relegation.

According to Phil Hay, Radrizzani’s investment at Sampdoria would require the sale of Leeds and so the hope is now it is completed, he is closer to the exit door.

Sky Sports yesterday provided an update that San Francisco 49ers Enterprises remain in advanced talks over a full buyout, with a fresh agreement needed after relegation.

The two parties had already shook hands on a deal that hinged on Leeds’ survival, but with that not having happened, Radrizzani could lose around £170 million once a new conclusion is reached.

All Leeds fans can hope for now his Sampdoria buyout is completed is that it speeds up the process of the talks with the 49ers given the amount of work that needs doing on and off the pitch ahead of the new season.
