‘Excellent’: Daniel Farke was so impressed by performance of one Leeds ace on Saturday

Daniel Farke has labelled Glen Kamara’s full debut for Leeds United on Saturday as ‘excellent’.

Farke was speaking in his post-match press conference after the game where he shared how pleased he was to have Kamara at the club after such a strong performance.

Kamara’s move to Elland Road was the most long-running saga of the summer from Leeds’ point of view, with the 27-year-old first having been linked all the way back in July.

Leeds were not able to get a deal over the line until the penultimate day of the window as he finally joined in a deal worth in excess of £5 million from Rangers.

In terms of match fitness, Kamara arrived at Leeds behind the rest of his teammates with the win over Watford just his second competitive start since June.

With all those factors taken into consideration, Farke labelled his performance as ‘excellent’ after the game and believes he will only get better as he builds up his fitness.

He said: “Excellent. I think it was important because he had little pre-season because there was so many rumours and talks with Rangers that he didn’t get much game time, was tough for him. We had the transfer of him, thank God we brought him in, then obviously when you come into a new environment and not played competitive games for such a long period, you need a few weeks in order to be then really prepared.

“I think he had also like a bit of game time for Finland, I think this helped him, you could see him growing over the last two weeks or so in training and the last days I got the feeling okay, he looks like now that he’s really prepared and ready because I just wanted to unleash him and he’s really fully fit and fully ready to go and this is what he what he showed today.

“I think he was excellent in his passing, his positioning against the ball. Obviously not a perfect performance even there were some areas we can improve but if you keep in mind that this was the first competitive game for him for clubs since really long while, you have to say you have to give him lots of praise and I’m pleased that he repaid as much as possible.”

Farke now has a real selection dilemma going forward with four quality players now all vying for two spots at the heart of his midfield.

Ethan Ampadu and Archie Gray had started every game alongside one another in all competitions until Saturday, with the latter having been handed a rest in place of Kamara.

Another late £5 million arrival Ilia Gruev is also patiently awaiting his full debut for Leeds after joining from Werder Bremen, and it will be interesting to see who Farke chooses at Southampton on Saturday.
