Daniel Farke has expressed his frustration over receiving a red card after Leeds United’s defeat to Manchester City, which Leeds have now appealed.
“To pull out a red card and embarrass me in front of the whole world, I wasn’t happy,” Farke said. It was the first red card in Farke’s 16-year managerial career, coming completely out of the blue for Farke.
Farke’s dismissal occurred after he confronted referee Peter Bankes at the final whistle. The Leeds boss was irked by the lack of additional stoppage time after a yellow card was issued for time-wasting.

The fire beast with some more magic!
“I wanted to ask him, ‘why did you give a yellow card if you don’t add any seconds?’ As soon as I arrived, he had the red card in his hand,” Farke explained. Leeds are now preparing to appeal the decision.
The club believes that the incident was a clear oversight and plans to present evidence to the FA. Six points clear of the relegation zone, maintaining Farke’s presence on the sidelines is crucial.
Farke’s Red Card Incident Details
The sequence of events leading to the red card was swift and surprising. Farke, who insists he used no foul language, jogged over to the referee to discuss the time management decisions.

“Even then, I didn’t use one bad word,” Farke emphasised, highlighting his disbelief at the red card being issued before he even had a chance to speak his mind.
The referee’s decision to brandish the red card so quickly, without engaging in a dialogue, left Farke and his assistants shocked. “I don’t think Peter did it on purpose; he just misjudged it,” Farke noted.
Leeds United’s Appeal Strategy
In response to the controversial decision, Leeds are appealing the red card. The club intends to ask the FA to review footage from the referee’s camera, believing that the decision was a clear and obvious mistake.

“When there has been a clear and obvious mistake, and for me this was a clear and obvious mistake, it should be overturned,” Farke said, voicing his expectations for the appeal process.
Currently sitting six points clear of the relegation zone, Leeds are keen to have Farke on the sidelines for their upcoming matches. His leadership will be crucial as they face Sunderland next.
With Leeds appealing the one-match touchline ban, Farke looks set to be allowed to be in the dugout for tonight’s clash against the Black Cats. Leeds will fancy their chances under the Elland Road lights.
