Leeds United have been linked with a move for Young Boys defender Aurele Amenda as a possible replacement for Max Wober, who is set for Gladbach – but TMW claim Atalanta also want Amenda, comparing him to Chris Smalling.
Wober, 25, played 19 times for Leeds during the second half of the season after joining the Whites in January. Even though we went down, it is fair to say he was one of our best players during that period. But he had his injuries, too.
Mail Plus claim Leeds want Amenda, as a replacement for Wober. The 19-year-old Swiss defender starred for Young Boys last term, breaking into the XI and playing 22 games at senior level. He helped win a League and Cup double.
However, further reports suggest Leeds are not alone in pursuit of the Swiss defender. A report, or more of a profile from TMW, states that Amenda’s name is on the lists of those at Atalanta. The report likens him to Roma’s Smalling.

Clearly, a player with huge talent. With Liam Cooper now likely to be first choice on the left of defence and Pascal Struijk cover for the skipper, it is not as if Leeds do not have left-footed centre-backs who cannot replace Wober.
But Leeds do need more options in central defence, even if there is impressive talent coming through the U21 ranks in Jeremiah Mullen, Kris Moore and Diogo Monteiro. Charlie Cresswell has returned and is likely to partner Cooper.
Struijk will be first reserve. But another central defender is needed, with Nat Phillips strongly linked with a move to Elland Road. Hopefully there will be some movement before the first fixture, as we welcome Cardiff on August 6.
