Leeds United captain Ethan Ampadu has picked out the one goal from the history of Leeds United that he would love to replicate for the club.

Ethan Ampadu continues to wait for his first-ever Premier League goal, having returned to the top flight as captain of Leeds this season.

With Leeds struggling for goals across the board this season, Daniel Farke needs all of his squad to be chipping in with goals, with Joe Rodon leading the way for the non-strikers in the Leeds squad.

Leeds captain Ampadu has never scored a league goal for the Whites, with his only two goals for the club coming in an FA Cup victory against Peterborough, which also featured a spectacular Patrick Bamford strike.

However, Bamford’s incredible volley was not the Leeds United goal that Ampadu would most like to replicate, as he picked his favourite from the Premier League era.

Speaking to the Premier League YouTube channel, Ampadu picked out Tony Yeboah’s legendary volley against Liverpool as his favourite Leeds goal of all time.

Handing Yeboah’s goal a five-star rating, Ampadu described the famous strike, which bounced in off the crossbar, as one he would love to recreate.

Ampadu said: “I’ve seen this before, and people in training always say that I’ve tried to recreate something like this, and I can promise everyone it’s not gone that way.

Explaining what makes the goal so technically hard, he added: “Keeping it down. For me personally, anyway. Especially as a midfielder, that’s like a dream goal you want – in the air, come on to the volley. I think it’s always a little bit nicer when I hit the bar and go in. It makes it look a little bit better.”

Before concluding: “This is like a dream goal for me. I’ll give it a five. I wish I could do that.”

Ethan Ampadu has some way to go to match Lucas Radebe’s Premier League record

Ampadu can hardly be described as prolific, having scored just three goals in his senior career, with his first career goal for Spezia Calcio in the 2022/23 season.

Having failed to find the net this season, Ampadu has extended his run without a Premier League goal to 36 games, according to TransferMarkt, to go with his 75 Championship, 60 Serie A and eight League Two appearances without finding the net in league matches.

Ampadu remains some way short of Leeds’ record-holder for most appearances in the Premier League without finding the net, a distinction which belongs to Lucas Radebe.

According to TalkSport, Radebe played 197 games for Leeds without a Premier League goal, although the man known as the Chief scored three times for Leeds, with two UEFA Cup goals and one FA Cup goal.
