Leeds United have completed two signings this summer, and ahead of the team’s trip to the United States to face Wrexham and Liverpool, Ethan Ampadu has been discussing the club’s additions.
After a year of waiting and a belief that any chance of signing Harry Wilson had gone, Leeds finally got a deal done for the Wales star. Wilson came within an inch of joining Leeds from Fulham in August 2025.

But Fulham pulled the plug. This summer, Wilson was out of contract, and Leeds have pulled a rabbit out of the hat to land the Welshman after a stunning campaign in which he had a hand in 17 league goals.
If that was impressive, Leeds then splashed £34m on Bosnia defender Tarik Muharemovic. The fee was Leeds’ second-biggest transfer in the club’s history, behind only record signing Georginio Rutter.
Ethan Ampadu explains why he is grateful for Wilson’s signing
On a free transfer, the signing of Wilson has the potential to be one of the deals of the summer if he can replicate his 2025-26 form in a Leeds shirt. Wilson was a player Marcelo Bielsa wanted while at Leeds.
The former Liverpool man is proven in the Premier League, and despite being an attacking flair player, is becoming a leader at this stage of his career. Speaking to BBC Sport, Ampadu was asked about Wilson.
Obviously, the two are teammates for Wales and Ampadu explained why he is “grateful” for the signing of the ex-Fulham star: “I don’t think he needed my convincing to join. He knew what an amazing club this is.
“What a great time he can have here; maybe a message or two might have guided him here. The Welsh players have spoken so glowingly about Leeds. He’s just honest,” Ampadu continued, discussing Wilson.
“Obviously, all the talks with the board and the manager have gone in the right direction,” the Leeds skipper added. “Because I know what he can do on the pitch, I am grateful we’ve got him here.
“Everyone saw more last year what he can do, his quality, his left foot, works for the team, works for himself, all Leeds fans will appreciate the hard work he does and the goals and assists are very special.”
Ampadu: Meeting Muharemovic resurfaced painful memories
Muharemovic will not join his new teammates just yet, with Pascal Struijk’s replacement currently enjoying some time off after playing at the World Cup with Bosnia. They got there after beating Wales and Italy.
In March, Muharemovic and Bosnia beat Wales on penalties. Now, the Bosnia star is teammates with the Wales contingent he knocked out. Ampadu admitted it reopened painful memories when meeting him.

“We played against him March, which is obviously a sensitive one. A bit of a reminder, but we could see his quality in that game. We can see fans and the club are talking about him,” Ampadu told Adam Pope.
“A young player with a lot of quality and a lot of potential, it’s very good for us. We’ve met him, he’s a great guy, and he’ll fit in well here,” the Leeds captain continued, ahead of the team travelling to the US.
It is unclear when Muharemovic will join his new teammates, but the Bosnian defender is set to replace Pascal Struijk in the starting XI. It remains to be seen if Daniel Farke will continue with his 3-5-2 system.
