Leeds United have made a fourth summer signing with the addition of Gabriel Gudmundsson, as the Swedish ace completes a £10m move from Lille to Elland Road.
After deals for fellow 26-year-olds Lukas Nmecha, Jaka Bijol, and Sebastiaan Bornauw, Leeds have now replaced the loss of Junior Firpo with the addition of 15-time Sweden star Gabriel Gudmundsson.
Adam Underwood has clearly identified a specific type of player. Those who are 6ft or over, aged 26, meaning they are experienced but yet to reach their peak years, and in the final months of their deals.
Gudmundsson is another example of that as the left-back signs on at Elland Road. He teams up with a Leeds side that have also announced a new one-year deal for Sam Byram until the summer of 2026.

It comes after four years with Lille, in which Gudmundsson played alongside England midfielder Angel Gomes. Like Gudmundsson, Gomes has left Lille this summer – completing a free transfer to Marseille.
Gomes commented on his old Lille teammate’s Instagram post, urging his old Man United academy pal Largie Ramazani to look after Gudmundsson, to which Ramazani said Gudmundsson is “in good hands”.

Like Gudmundsson and Gomes, Elanga is on the move this summer with a £55m move to Newcastle from Nottingham Forest likely. Leeds are spending £12m on Sean Longstaff, and that aids a move for Elanga.
Gudmundsson’s Sweden teammate Elanga also commented, congratulating the left-back and telling the new Leeds man he will see him “soon”. Former Lille centre-back Jose Fonte also commented on the post.
Leeds are set to continue splashing the cash with Longstaff expected next and potentially six more new signings. A new goalkeeper, a full-back, a midfielder, a winger, a no.10 and a striker to lead the attack.
