Leicester City play host to Leeds United on Friday evening at the King Power and plenty of eyes will be on the improving form of midfielder Harry Winks – who could easily have joined Leeds in the summer.
Winks returned to Tottenham in the summer after a season on loan at Andrea Radrizzani’s Sampdoria. He had a year left on his Spurs deal and he needed a move. Winks went to Leicester, joining for £10m.
An England international, Winks has dropped down a division in order to get his career back on track after issues with an ankle injury in Italy. Whether he can get back to England levels again, who knows.
But, he has made a wonderful start back in England. Of Leicester’s 14 League games, he has completed 90 minutes 13 times, and north of 80 minutes in the other – as the Foxes sit at the top of the table.
It could have been very different. Leeds needed midfielders in the summer. Tyler Adams, Adam Forshaw, Weston McKennie and Marc Roca all departed. Italian site Samp News 24 said we were looking at Winks.

Harry Winks can fill Leeds with regret in Leicester clash on Friday
Instead of course, we went for Ethan Ampadu, Ilia Gruev and Glen Kamara. Archie Gray, a new signing. Ampadu has been sensational. But alongside him, it is still up for debate. Gray has gone to right-back.
Gruev has struggled and Kamara has only just got going. Winks would have been a sensational signing, judging by his form for Leicester. Alongside Ampadu, Leeds would have the best Championship midfield.
On Friday, Winks will have the chance to show Leeds why we should have made a move to bring him in from Spurs – having got Joe Rodon and Djed Spence. He can show why Leeds should have got him.
Winks is right back in form and his goal against QPR was sensational. He’ll be brimming with confidence come Friday and it might be a sign to Farke that instead of Gruev, Winks should have been signed.
