The Championship’s promotion race takes another twist this weekend with Leeds United, Sheffield United and Burnley all playing away – with two of the three playing at lunchtime on Saturday.

Interestingly, both Leeds and Burnley are in action on Saturday lunchtime. Leeds go to Luton Town for an early kick-off at Kenilworth Road, with Leeds looking to banish their lunchtime hoodoo against Luton.

Burnley go to Frank Lampard’s Coventry City who are in good form and in the scrap for the play-offs, though the Sky Blues were easily beaten by Sheffield United at Bramall Lane. They return to the CBS.

Sheffield United then play later on in the day, handing Leeds the chance to go top of the table at least for a few hours with a win over Luton. The Blades go to Oxford United, who are fighting to avoid the drop.

Sam Parkin predicts Leeds, Burnley and Sheffield United fixtures

Burnley and Sheffield United are obviously in excellent form, with Burnley unbeaten under Scott Parker since November 3. But a trip to Coventry will surely test The Clarets’ resolve with Lampard impressing.

Sheffield United are coming into their own and continue to churn out results, whether they can continue to do so in the next seven games remains to be seen. EFL legend Sam Parkin has predicted all three.

“Coventry will be in the play-offs, but I can’t back against Burnley. Two losses all season. Statement win, 2-1 Burnley. I’m putting Darlow in [over Meslier in goal], little extra story line. Have Leeds turned a corner?

“I think it would be a head-scratcher if Leeds went and won, but I’m going to go 1-0 to Leeds. This will be quite convincing here I think, couple of early goals. 1-3 to Sheffield United,” Parkin predicted this week.

How the table looks if Leeds, Burnley and Sheff Utd all win

Luton have three long-term absentees back after Reece Burke, Amari’i Bell and Tahith Chong all played in Luton’s last game, a 1-0 win over Joe Gelhardt’s Hull. They are in good form, and have players returning.

But on paper and removing the obvious pressure of the promotion run-in, Leeds should still win this. The reverse fixture saw Leeds secure a 3-0 win, including an unlikely scissor-kick goal from Sam Byram.

Leeds will be hoping that Lampard and Coventry can do Leeds favour by preventing Burnley from winning at the same time as Leeds facing Luton, as well as piling the pressure on Chris Wilder’s Sheffield United.
