Ahead of Saturday’s crucial Championship clash against Luton Town, Pascal Struijk has attempted to rally the Leeds United fanbase with a post on social media this week.
He might not be wearing the armband during the run-in with Ethan Ampadu fit again, but Struijk is still a leader in this Leeds side and will be one of the first names on the team sheet at Luton come Saturday.
Leeds desperately need a win after picking up a maximum just once in their last five games, a 2-0 victory over Millwall. Leeds need to rectify the disappointment of failing to beat Swansea last time out.
The fanbase is nervous and the players need to shoulder the responsibility and get The Whites over the line. Struijk has attempted to appease fans with a post on social media ahead of the trip to Luton.
Pascal Struijk’s post on social media backfires as Leeds fans reply
Struijk posted an eight-word message saying “a few more finals, let’s do this together” as he looked to unite a stressed and concerned fanbase ahead of Saturday’s trip to an in-form Luton Town team.
Luton have won three out of their last five and while they remain in 23rd place in the league, they are gathering some momentum. Leeds fans responded to Struijk’s post, the atmosphere clear to see.
Despite Struijk trying to be positive, the majority of responding fans replied in a negative manner. Some replied by saying Leeds are bad in Cup finals, while others questioned the drop off in form and effort.
One of those to reply was @officialbradfarnill, who got almost 200 likes for his reply – saying “Yeah, because our record in cup finals is class,” showing just where the morale of Leeds fans currently sits.
There were plenty of others who responded in similarly frustrated mood, with @tomirvine96 saying: “Actions speak louder than words,” while @c2can said “can we do it? That’s the question” in reply.
@jceyre took Struijk’s post personally as if it was the fan’s fault: “Pascal, it’s on the players to do this, not the fans who always show up. Please don’t let this be a repeat of last season, play without fear.”
Another reply highlighted the mood of Leeds fan, with @jackpearson91 posting “talking a good game isn’t going to cut it, Pascal. @gazz94_ said: “Can’t you and the players do it for a change. I need a day off.”
Luton and Leeds injury news ahead of Saturday clash
It’s good news for Leeds’ opponents and not just because of their recent good form, in which they’ve won 10 points from the last 15 in their bid to stay in the Championship. Three key players have returned.
Reece Burke, Amari’i Bell and Tahith Chong all featured in last Saturday’s 1-0 win over Hull and will be fit to play against Leeds, after injuries. Indeed, Burke’s last start before Saturday was the 3-0 loss to Leeds.
Daniel Farke meanwhile, has a full bill of health. Patrick Bamford, Max Wober and Ethan Ampadu are all fit again while Willy Gnonto showed with his goal that the ankle injury is not causing him much bother.
