Dominic Matteo says Leeds United have a ‘great’ player in their ranks who can get even better

There might be some question marks when it comes to Daniel Farke picking his best eleven, but there are a number of players in this Leeds United side that pick themselves – and one is Joe Rodon.

The 26-year-old has made himself undroppable since joining Leeds, starting his 25th consecutive game for Leeds on Saturday in a 3-0 win over Rotherham. He has 13 clean sheets in 31 league and cup games.

Centre-back partners come and go. Pascal Struijk has been injured for the last seven league matches, while Liam Cooper comes in and out of the side. Ethan Ampadu is currently partnering him in defence.

But Rodon is in the conversation for our best players, at least this season – alongside Ampadu, Georginio Rutter and Cree Summerville. Dom Matteo spoke about Rodon on the Leeds preview show on Saturday.

Of course, Matteo knows a thing or two about playing centre-back for Leeds. The Elland Road icon spoke highly of Rodon, but still thinks the Tottenham-owned defender can improve in a Leeds shirt.

“Joe has been outstanding. He reads the game so well, he’s quick so he can get out of trouble when he needs to. A great player, and the improvement will come with him when he needs it, as well,” he said.

Rodon has been absolutely superb. Troy Deeney recently said that since joining Leeds, he feels Rodon has improved so much. Clearly, Matteo feels there is some way he can still go before being at his best.

But if this is not Rodon at his best, then Leeds have got to sign him permanently. Not just because he is playing incredibly well right now, but because he is going to get better – and resale value could grow.
