Leeds United play host to Middlesbrough at Elland Road this afternoon and with temperatures plummeting below 0 degrees in Yorkshire today, Dom Matteo has shared an image of the pitch.

A crucial clash for both sides at this early stage in the Championship campaign, with Boro looking to right the wrongs of a poor start – while we look to keep the heat on the top two, Leicester and Ipswich.

A win could see leeds climb to within four points of Ipswich, if the Tractor Boys lose to Coventry City at home. Leicester, meanwhile, travel to in-form West Brom who may fancy their chances at lunchtime.

Games across the Football League and in grass roots are being cancelled to day as the temperatures take their toll on the pitches. But despite that, Leeds is set to remain on – due to under-soil heating.

Matteo posted a picture on Instagram from the stands at Elland Road, of the pitch – which looked particularly frosty this morning. Hopefully, the pitch thaws well enough in time for today’s 3pm kick-off.

Leeds will be without Junior Firpo and Joe Gelhardt today, but the likes of Georginio Rutter, Liam Cooper and Sam Byram are all fit for today’s outing. A game that would be a real signal of intent, if we win it.

Boro are going to be up there at the end of the season and have already beaten Southampton and then Leicester, so it will be an incredibly tough game. But, Leeds have been incredible at home this season.

Get on the front foot and an early goal, and a fast start will help rid the Leeds players of the cold air that is currently swirling around Elland Road. A massive game for the Whites and Daniel Farke this afternoon.
