Leeds United would have a good chance of completing a deal for Rangers midfielder Glen Kamara if they firm up their interest.
That is according to Yorkshire Evening Post journalist Graham Smyth, who provided the update on the latest episode of the ‘Inside Elland Road Podcast’.
Smyth confirmed earlier this week that Kamara is a player Leeds have looked at with midfield still an area of priority after the capture of Ethan Ampadu from Chelsea.
According to The Fourth Official, a deal had even moved as close being on the verge of completion for a fee in the region of £4 million, though that report appears to have been premature.
Kamara is almost certainly set to leave Rangers this summer with manager Michael Beale confirming they have already received a number of enquiries for him earlier this week.
Smyth provides update on Leeds’ pursuit of Kamara
Leeds are clearly looking at a number of midfielders to potentially fill that number eight role, with Paris Saint Germain’s Edouard Michut also having been linked on Wednesday.
Smyth says while Leeds’ pursuit of Kamara has not yet gone beyond initial interest, it is a deal they have a good chance of getting done if they so wish.
He said: “[Glen] Kamara is one they’ve considered, Leeds, and looked at. It feels very doable and it also feels very sensible.”
Kamara would be an excellent addition to Leeds’ midfield options and help provide that link between midfield and attack due to his quality in possession.
The 27-year-old did lose his way a tad at Rangers last season but on the whole has proven to be an excellent servant for the Scottish side, with Steven Gerrard previously describing him as ‘fantastic’ during his time as manager.
At the reported £4/£5m price tag, this would be a real smart piece of business by Leeds, though whether they firm up their initial interest remains to be seen.
