Junior Firpo’s future at Leeds United has been a hot topic since the turn of the year. Now, there’s another twist in the tale.

Junior Firpo was a somewhat unlikely hero for Leeds United on their road to the Championship title in 2024/25, particularly in the second half of the season when he returned from injury.

The former Barcelona man went on to feature 32 times in total last season, scoring four times and claiming an impressive 10 assists. But he’s soon to see his contract at Elland Road come to an end.

Leeds United have offered Firpo a deal to stay at the club ahead of their return to the Premier League. It’s understood to be a lucrative contract offer too, though Firpo is clearly stalling on renewing his stay in West Yorkshire.

The flying full-back has a number of suitors across Europe and in the Premier League too, with previous reports revealing that Everton and West Ham are among those interested in Firpo this summer.

Junior Firpo recently spoke with Real Betis amid Leeds United exit rumours

As if the noise around Firpo’s future at the club wasn’t enough, it’s now being reported in Spain that Firpo has held talks with his potential next club: Real Betis. Real Betis have been linked with Firpo throughout the year and going into this summer, with the La Liga club also making checks on Firpo’s Leeds United teammate Mateo Joseph.

Spanish outlet Diario de Sevilla report that Real Betis’ and Firpo’s entourages spoke over the weekend, which has in turn stepped up a potential move to Spain for Firpo who joined Leeds United from Barcelona back in 2021, making 119 appearances since.

Real Betis aren’t the only team keen on the Dominican international, though. Fabrizio Romano recently revealed that Lyon have made a proposal to Firpo, whilst Serie A giants AC Milan and Lazio are also interested in a potential deal this summer.

Leeds United have entered talks to sign a Junior Firpo replacement

Farke has been credited with an interest in a handful of potential Firpo replacements since the turn of the year, and since the 2024/25 Championship season ended.

The likes of Kyle Walker-Peters and Hugo Bueno among others have been mentioned. But the most recent reports revealed how Leeds United have entered talks to sign Alex Moreno from Aston Villa this summer.

Moreno, 32 and coincidentally a former Betis player, spent last season on loan with Nottingham Forest but featured sporadically, making 15 Premier League appearances and claiming just the one assist.

Leeds’ entering talks with Moreno may yet be a big indicator that Farke is accepting the fact that Firpo is leaving the club this summer. Although Leeds would need more full-backs whether or not Firpo stays, with numbers perilously light in that area.
