David Seaman shares whether he’d want Bielsa back as Leeds manager

David Seaman has told his Seaman Says podcast that he would love Marcelo Bielsa to come back to Leeds United as the club continue their search for their next manager.

Leeds parted company with Jesse Marsch at the start of this week. The decision came with the Whites lingering just outside the relegation zone in the Premier League. And the search continues.

It appears that Arne Slot has now become the preferred candidate. The Independent reported on Thursday that an approach for the Feyenoord boss has now been made.

Seaman would welcome Bielsa back at Leeds

But of course, one name fans cannot help but talk about is Bielsa. The Argentinian remains one of the most popular managers in the club’s history. And obviously, he knows many of the players from his spell in Yorkshire.

It is hard to imagine Bielsa returning. Leeds appeared to be in trouble of being relegated when he left last season. And he arguably thrives when he has time to work with his players. Obviously, he would not have that as the games come thick and fast.

Seaman was discussing who Leeds turn to next. And he suggested that he would be happy to see Bielsa return.

“There’s even talk of the messiah coming back,” he told Seaman Says. “Do you know what, the more I think about it, I think yeah [to wanting him back]. Not only because of what he did before, but even if we go down, you’d love him to be the manager to bring you back up, wouldn’t you.

“I’m sure it would make a lot of Leeds fans happy if Bielsa came back. But we’ll see.”

It would be a real gamble for both Leeds and Bielsa if they were reunited. Leeds are in trouble this season – despite the superb performance on Wednesday – and it is not the ideal circumstances for Bielsa to come in.

And Bielsa would be wary of tainting his legacy. He remains an icon at Elland Road. But it would hurt everyone if that was slightly spoiled by the Argentinian not being able to turn things around.

Clearly, it would be amazing if Bielsa came back and got Leeds playing as they did in our first season back in the Premier League.

But right now, that appears to be a monumental task.
