Leeds United appear to have stepped up their interest in Arne Slot, with The Independent reporting that they have now made an approach for the Feyenoord manager.
The Whites are continuing their pursuit of Jesse Marsch’s successor. Reports from the Daily Mail this week claimed that Victor Orta was in Madrid for talks with Andoni Iraola.
However, Iraola is not the only name on their radar. And according to AS, the Spaniard has rejected the chance to take over at Elland Road.
Leeds approach Slot in search for next manager
Leeds have bounced back quickly however. The Independent reports that the Whites have now made an approach for Slot. It is suggested that he has become the club’s preferred candidate for the role.
Like Iraola, Slot is not a household name to Premier League fans. But he is doing an outstanding job with Feyenoord in the Eredivisie. They currently sit top of the table after 20 games. And they have only lost one game all season.
Slot wants his side to play brave football and take risks. It appears that his defensive ideas are more pragmatic than Marsch’s had been. But he does also like to adopt a narrow shape. So his demands would not be completely unfamiliar to the Leeds squad.
Obviously, anyone Leeds appointed would have been a risky choice. There are not many managers with Premier League experience who boast a high stock and would suit the current Leeds squad.
The Whites are also looking to get the balance right between someone capable of guiding the club to safety and someone who can really take the team forward in the long-term. Unfortunately, Marsch fell down on the latter.
Slot has done brilliant work in the Netherlands. But if he decides to make the move, there may be a little unease over how the appointment will play out until we have seen his Leeds team in action.
