Leeds United will be looking for their first win of the season against Birmingham City on Saturday.

However, writing in his latest weekly Sky Sports prediction column, former Leeds midfielder David Prutton does not believe that will arrive this weekend.

Leeds came from two goals down to rescue a point last weekend against Cardiff City at Elland Road, with Crysencio Summerville netting a 95th minute equaliser.

Summerville, though, is one of several players out injured for the trip to the West Midlands, with Daniel Farke’s squad already looking threadbare ahead of just his third game in charge.

Birmingham, meanwhile, have enjoyed an extremely productive summer on the transfer front and also picked up a point in their first game of the season, drawing 1-1 at Swansea City.

Prutton predicts draw between Leeds and Birmingham

With both sides still looking for that first three points of the season, Prutton does not think that will arrive this weekend for either team.

He said: “There is so much more optimism around Birmingham City than we’ve seen in years. It really is terrific to see a club back on the up in all aspects after it has suffered a turbulent time.

“They, like Leeds, began the Championship season with a draw. They both got a Carabao Cup win in midweek, but will want to get that first victory in the Championship, too. But I’m backing a draw here. Prediction: Birmingham 1-1 Leeds.”

With such uncertainty surrounding the squad at the moment, this is looking like an extremely difficult away match already.

As Prutton eluded to, there is more optimism at Birmingham than there has been in many years and they will be looking to put on a show in their first home game of the season.

Leeds will have to be somewhere near their best if they are to pick up their first league win under Farke.
