David Prutton has shared his prediction for Leeds United’s trip to Cardiff City this afternoon.
Daniel Farke’s side enter the match on the back of consecutive 3-0 victories, defeating Birmingham City at Elland Road on New Year’s Day, before then powering past Peterborough United in the FA Cup.
However, Leeds are currently on an extremely poor run of form on the road in the Championship, having lost each of their last three matches against Sunderland, Preston North End and West Brom.
Leeds are going to be in for a similar sort of test today at Cardiff, as they are likely to sit back and defend, which is a style Farke has struggled to get the better of so far this season.
However, writing in his latest predictions column for Sky Sports, Prutton has backed Leeds to get over that poor run of results and secure a crucial victory away in South Wales.
Prutton backs Leeds for three points
Prutton believes Leeds will edge a tight affair 2-1, which would just be their third win in 14 visits to Cardiff. It is an away game the Whites have notoriously struggled in over the years.
Leeds will need to play with much more tempo and pace than in their last three away matches. Their failure to break teams down has been attributed to passing the ball around too slowly.
However, key duo Crysencio Summerville and Georginio Rutter should come into the match nice and refreshed, having both been unused substitutes in the FA Cup.
Leeds will need them at their best this afternoon and the game could see Rutter handed his second consecutive start as a number 10 – where he shone against Birmingham.
Rutter could start just in behind Patrick Bamford, who is more deserving of a start than Joel Piroe at the moment. Bamford’s movement in behind could be key to creating chances.
