Daniel Farke will have to overcome the odds as Opta deliver Sunderland v Leeds United verdict

Leeds United manager Daniel Farke will have to defy the odds once again as he prepares his side for a difficult meeting with Sunderland.

Daniel Farke and his Leeds side are on a season-best run of form, having taken eight points from their last four games.

Leeds were heavily unfavoured in each of those games, with reports suggesting that Farke could lose his job if he continued the poor run of form that preceded the win over Chelsea.

The Whites are looking for a first away Premier League win against Sunderland since 2002, when James Milner scored his first senior goal in a 2-1 victory.

However, they will have to overcome Opta’s latest prediction if they are to do so, with Regis Le Bris’ side being backed to claim a win.

Opta predicts Sunderland v Leeds United result

Despite Leeds’ recent resurgence in the Premier League, sports data giants Opta are not optimistic about their hopes of securing a second away win of the season.

Leeds’ only other away win came against bottom side Wolves, when Dominic Calvert-Lewin scored his first goal for the club.

According to Opta, Leeds have just a 26.8% chance of claiming victory at the Stadium of Light, with a 26.3% chance of a draw.

However, the home side are the overwhelming favourites for the game, having been handed a 46.9% chance of securing an eighth win of the season.

In a crumb of comfort for Farke, Opta also made Crystal Palace favourites for their defeat at Elland Road, as Farke looks to pull off another upset.

Leeds United will need to beat impressive Robin Roefs

If Leeds do pull off an upset on the road against the Black Cats, they will have succeeded where several other sides have failed this season.

While Lucas Perri is now finding his feet at Leeds, Sunderland’s goalkeeper Robin Roefs has enjoyed a flying start to life with his new club, helping them to an unexpectedly strong start to life in the top flight.

Who should start in goal for Leeds United?

According to Fotmob, Roefs has saved 77.3% of the shots he has faced this season, the second-best in the top flight, behind Emi Martinez of Aston Villa.

With Leeds striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin also in fine form in front of goal, this head-to-head could go a long way towards determining the outcome of the game.
