Leeds United were closing in on a move to sign Norwich City’s Max Aarons and a report from the Pink Un said that Daniel Farke had been ‘desperate’ for Leeds to sign Aarons since his arrival – but now, he is off to Bournemouth.

Aarons, 23, was on his way to Elland Road. The two clubs were in ‘advanced talks’. It would have seen Farke reunite with the right-back, after giving Aarons his debut at Norwich back in August 2018. He has since played 213 games.

However, a twist in pursuit of the defender. Phil Hay says, out of nowhere – with a deal seemingly agreed for Aarons – that Bournemouth are now leading the race to sign him. Indeed, Hay claims the Cherries have hijacked our move.

The latest report from Pink Un said that Farke was ‘desperate’ for Leeds to bring the defender to Elland Road from his old side – when taking the Whites job. He even tried to sign him while at Gladbach, but, he has missed out.

It would have been brilliant business, too. In 2021, Norwich wanted between £30m and £35m with Bayern Munich among the clubs interested in landing the right-back. Last summer, a £20m fee was touted to Manchester United.

Not only would Leeds have been signing a brilliant right-back, a player that would have hit the ground running given he has played so much under Farke and won the Championship twice – but also, a player worth far more than £12m.

However, Leeds have missed out. Having beaten Bournemouth to the signing of Karl Darlow from Newcastle, Leeds have now failed to get a second one over the Cherries – with Aarons going to the Premier League side this summer.
