For the first time in a number of seasons, Leeds United now finally have a substitute’s bench littered with players who can make an impact.
Too many times over the years Leeds have left themselves short in the squad depth department but that is no longer the case after San Francisco 49ers Enterprises’ first window as majority shareholders.
The strength of Leeds‘ bench was evident in Saturday’s incredible comeback victory at Norwich City, where they came back from two goals down to win 3-2.
While Crysencio Summerville was the star of the show, Leeds’ quest for three points was undoubtedly strengthened by those who came off the bench.
The likes of Jaidon Anthony and Patrick Bamford made a different, but Willy Gnonto’s introduction in particular really helped turn the game around.
Farke should consider Gnonto start
Gnonto – regarded as a special player by Michael Skubala – had been out for over a month until Saturday’s game at Carrrow Road, and so Daniel Farke opted to ease him back into action with a 20 minute cameo.
The 19-year-old was excellent on his return to the side, getting himself into the thick of the action straight away, touching the ball 23 times.
Though Summerville’s equaliser was down to the quality of the finish, Gnonto was the man who provided the assist for that goal.
Farke is stacked for options in the wide positions and so it will be important for him to utilise them effectively, but Gnonto and Summerville does feel like his strongest pairing.
With Stoke City on the horizon tomorrow night, Farke should definitely consider handing Gnonto a start as Leeds look to make it four wins in a row.
