Daniel Farke has told his post-match press conference that he was both “angry and happy” at half-time during Leeds United’s impressive 3-2 win over Middlesbrough on Saturday, at Elland Road.
A crazy game saw Boro take the lead after just three minutes, Emmanuel Latte Lath scoring the first of his two goals for Michael Carrick’s men. But, leeds replied instantly, leading only four minutes later.
Dan James got an equaliser, before Cree Summerville netted his eighth of the season. Towards the end of the first 45, Georgie Rutter tried to shoot – but was fouled by Matt Clarke, who just came on as a sub.
Joel Piroe stepped up to match Summerville’s eight goals for the season, with a well-struck spot kick. Boro got one back just before the break, Latte Lath nabbing his second. More drama in the second 45.
Anfernee Dijksteel was shown a red card in the second half and Leeds held on to a second successive win. Four wins from the last five. But Farke was both happy and angry at half-time, telling the players.
“Both [angry and happy]. Important to discipline myself. If I am still burning I am not dead. Driven by our emotion. Always tried playing the risky pass. Played with too many transition moments,” Farke said.
“I love this side of my team. Still important at HT to speak about details, calm them down. Game management could have been better. Hard-fought,” the German added in his presser, as per Leeds Live.

What is important, is that Leeds did what was required to win all three points against a side that are likely to be in and around them come the end of the season. A real statement to the rest of the League.
Indeed, Southampton and Leicester both lost to Boro – but Leeds? No. Farke’s anger at half-time with Leeds winning, though just conceding, is a sign of the standards he has brought in at Leeds as boss.
