Daniel Farke shares what he ‘told’ Joe Rodon when he went down injured in Leeds United’s win at Elland Road

Joe Rodon had looked as though he would need substituting during Leeds United’s win over Middlesbrough.

Rodon received treatment on his knee after being caught under a challenge from Ao Tanaka and after re-entering the field, was seen shaking his head in discomfort.

Leeds were level and under the cosh from Boro at the time of Rodon’s knock and his withdrawal could have really turned the game in the away side’s favour.

However, Rodon stayed on for the full 90 minutes and Leeds were eventually able to wrestle back the momentum by going on to score two goals courtesy of Dan James and Brenden Aaronson to seal a 3-1 success.

Leeds have now won their last nine Championship matches at Elland Road and are back top of the Championship ahead of Sheffield United’s trip to Millwall.

Farke shares what he told Rodon after knock in Leeds win

Since his first league start against West Bromwich Albion back in August 2023, Rodon has missed out on a spot in the starting XI just twice.

One of those matches came as a result of a red card he picked up at Hull City, with the other coming in the game directly against Southampton when Daniel Farke opted to name him on the bench.

As such, that means Rodon has not missed a single league match through injury since being at the club, though that record was at risk last night.

At one stage it really did look as though Rodon would need to be replaced, but speaking in his post-match press conference, Farke has explained how he told the Wales defender there was ‘no chance’ of him coming off.

He said: “A hit on his knee. Bruise, but a warrior. I told him no chance of a substitution. Last weekend you celebrate and now, we need some steel, no chance we sub you.”

Rodon stats after another colossal Leeds display

After a couple of tricky matches early on in the season, Rodon genuinely feels like he has gone up another level since signing permanently.

His passing out from the back has looked much better, and against one of the most dangerous strikers in the league Emmanuel Latte Lath, he barely gave him a kick.
