Daniel Farke shares what he noticed about Leeds United star’s body language at Blackburn Rovers

Daniel Farke says Leeds United centre-back Joe Rodon is the kind of “old-school” defender that is crucial to clubs even in the modern period – praising the on-loan Tottenham man’s body language.

Rodon, 26, has been excellent since arriving at Leeds. His 17th outing for the Whites on Saturday, as we secured a ninth win in 11 games – and a third in a row. Dan James and Cree Summerville scoring again.

James opened the scoring with a lash across goal into the far corner, before Summerville was played in by Archie Gray – he chipped the on-rushing goalkeeper. Blackburn did have chances, at Ewood Park.

Indeed, Arnor Sigurdsson’s header late on was deflected and then spectacularly saved by Illan Meslier. But, it was a clean sheet for Leeds – only our second in our last 10 league games. Rodon was key to that.

Farke spoke about the on-loan Tottenham man in his post match press conference – as per Leeds Live – praising the Welshman for his old-school approach to defending, hid body language and much more.

“Old school attitude, but role model for modern defenders. High line. Good body language. Have worked on his leadership in the backline. Pleased we have him. Same 30 years ago same 30 years from now.

“The first thing you need to do as a defender is defend. If he keeps going like this we are very happy,” Farke said during Saturday evening’s press conference, following the 2-0 away win over Blackburn.

Rodon has been exceptional. The Leeds side is now shining because Farke knows his best team – and Rodon is clearly the leader in a defence that also boasts other leaders like Pascal Struijk, Sam Byram.

Absolutely, Leeds need to sign Rodon permanently. But Spurs will surely be looking at his quite superb form and think – they could get a bigger fee than expected, and sell to a club in the Premier League.

So, if Leeds stand any chance of keeping Rodon at Elland Road beyond the end of his loan spell – then promotion is surely crucial. It would allow the Whites to spend the kind of cash necessary to get him.
