Daniel Farke says Leeds United have a £2.9m player who’s just like Archie Gray

Leeds United have a solid squad to see out the season and despite a lack of activity in the transfer window, Daniel Farke clearly trusts his players.

This came into effect as Leeds battered Watford 4-0 as some fans saw it as the performance of their season so far.

After the win Leeds were branded ‘unstoppable’ and that is very evident, as the Whites can make it 15 games unbeaten in the Championship if they avoid defeat to Sunderland on Monday.

It’s been a very positive few months in the Leeds camp, but they must continue.

Farke believes a lot of their efforts are due to one specific Leeds player who is almost like the glue of the team.

Daniel Farke says Leeds United player Ao Tanaka is like Archie Gray

When people mention the name Ao Tanaka, Leeds fans smile.

The Japanese midfielder has been a revelation at Elland Road this season, as Tanaka’s £2.9m move from Fortuna Dusseldorf is turning into the bargain of the season.

Farke loves the midfielder and has given him high praise with a comparison to Archie Gray in his pre-match press conference on Friday, ahead of the Sunderland encounter.

“I think overall, it’s important he’s in a central role. You have to lead and make sure they are all on the same page. Football is one language that everyone understands,” Farke said.

“To lead by example on the pitch with good performances is what we expected.

“A player like Archie Gray last season at 18 when in a central role (did this).

“Of course, Tanaka is not the biggest leader in terms of speaking but he plays a crucial role.”

Leeds player Tanaka has got to be in the running for Player of the Season

The 26-year-old is such a joy in Yorkshire, as he is the perfect player to give 7/10 performances week in, and week out.

Dominic Mateo dubbed Tanaka ‘unbelievable’ and it’s easy to understand why after his performances this season.

Leeds’ central midfielder has got to be in the running for Championship Player of the Season, but unfortunately for the midfielder, he’s one of those players that goes under the radar, which is exactly what Gray did at Leeds and is now doing the same at Tottenham.

He doesn’t have the glitz and glamor at Leeds, but Tanaka’s character and hard work at the Whites make him a real fan favourite.
