Daniel Farke has criticised Archie Gray in his post-match press conference as the youngster failed to cope with Preston’s Liam Millar on Boxing Day – stating it is time for the Leeds talent to “learn”.
Leeds have now won just one of four games, losing to Preston 2-1 on Boxing Day. Illan Meslier was sent off just after half-time, forcing Leeds to play with 10 men – bringing on Karl Darlow for striker Joel Piroe.
Liam Millar proved to be the difference for Preston, nabbing an assist for Preston’s first – scored by Alan Browne – before scoring a wonderful effort to win the game on 89 minutes after Pascal Struijk’s penalty.
Gray, operating at right-back again, failed to deal with Canada star Millar – who was excellent during the clash. Farke was asked about teen Gray in his post-match press conference, as quoted by Leeds Live.
“Millar is good. Handled many situations very well, but in a crucial situation when he scores, Gray knows he should have closed better. Many situations I was happy with. Sun has been shining for him for weeks.
“But this is where he learns. You pay the price for inexperience sometimes. Should have done better, but don’t want to blame him that much, Would rather speak about our attackers in the first half,” Farke said.

We all know Gray has been exceptional, even playing out of position on the right of defence. Tuesday’s loss will be a learning curve for the youngster, coming up against one of the League’s best left wingers.
He coped well enough but it only takes a moment to switch off and lose concentration, for tiredness to creep in. Jon Newsome says Farke should have taken him off at half-time, to save Gray’s confidence.
But he remained, once again, for the entire 90 minutes. Another loss, our second in four. Ipswich have stretched their lead over Leeds to eight points, as they nabbed a draw against Leicester on Boxing Day.
