Helder Costa last played for Leeds United in August 2021 but quite remarkably, he remains on the books at Elland Road and Daniel Farke has given an update – saying we are working to find a “good” solution.
Costa, 29, last turned out for Leeds back in the Carabao Cup against Crewe. But since then, he has had a loan at La Liga side Valencia, and then last season – winning the Saudi Pro League title with Al-Ittihad.
Now in his fifth year on the books at Leeds, Costa failed to get a move away from the club in the summer and Phil Hay says his deal could be terminated. It has been made clear, he has no future at Elland Road.
But it must also be remembered that he played a key role in our promotion back to the Premier League – having a hand in 19 goals in 71 games. Farke responded when asked about Angola international Costa.
“Nothing has changed. We made it clear. Helder’s wish is to make a move. We have decided he is not in our plans. Everything is clear between all parties,” the gaffer said during Thursday’s press conference.
“The club is working behind the scenes on a good solution. We made that decision because we want players that are fully committed. In a professional and honest way, he won’t be involved,” Farke added.

So, while he has been an expensive purchase in terms of the £15m fee spent on him – given he is likely to leave for nothing – he is still a player at a good age, with immense quality. His contract ends in June.
What could the “good solution” be, then? Could it be waiting until January, and then finding Costa a new club? Or – could it be terminating his deal. The third option, letting his contract run down until June.
