Daniel Farke watched as Willy Gnonto scored the only goal of the game last Friday in Leeds United’s 1-0 win over Bristol City – and on Monday, Farke shared how the Italian is shining behind the scenes.

Gnonto was handed a start against Bristol City at Ashton Gate after an injury to Dan James in the 1-0 win over Norwich City, beforehand. His left-footed effort proved to be the only goal of the game for us.

It would have been a close call between choosing Gnonto and Jaidon Anthony to start at Bristol City last time out – with Anthony scoring a superb goal in the fourth round of The FA Cup against Plymouth.

Speaking ahead of Tuesday night’s replay against Plymouth, Farke told the club’s YouTube that it was a difficult choice between Gnonto and Anthony on Friday. But he said Gnonto is starring in Leeds training.

“Willy is a bit more straight forward, both feet. He’s working hard, he’s really on it. He’s been unlucky in the last few games, but we wanted to show that we back him and trust him in these hard times,” he said.

“It was a tight call [between Jaidon and Willy], he probably expected to start. It was not a decision against Jaidon, but a gut feeling that Willy would deliver in this game and thank God he repaid the trust.”

Daniel Farke says Willy Gnonto is impressing in Leeds training

Impressing in training, putting issues of pre-season and refusing to play behind him and on the verge of signing a new contract – as Graeme Bailey told LeedsUnited.News – Gnonto is finally back, for Leeds.

Hopefully, for Leeds and for himself, he can continue that return to form on Tuesday night and play a part in Leeds securing a place in the fifth round of the FA Cup – with a replay win over Plymouth Argyle.
