Daniel Farke has been appointed as Leeds United’s new manager, signing a four-year deal and he responded when asked by Sky Sports if he will have plenty of cash to spend this summer – and if players need to be sold, to spend.
The 46-year-old manager has been handed a four-year deal as Leeds manager, returning to English football little over 18 months after being sacked by Norwich in 2021. It comes after a season in charge of Monchengladbach.
Farke has been chosen by Leeds largely thanks to his four years at Norwich, where he secured promotion from the Championship to the Premier League as Champions, on two occasions. It is a month until our opener on August 6.
Plenty of work needs to be done. A whole host of players will leave the club, and incomings are needed. A lot needs to be done over the next two months. The German will have to get up to speed quickly to secure an instant return.
Farke gave an interview to Sky Sports from within the Elland Road stadium, and was asked: “Have you got a lot of money to spend? Have you got to do a lot of chopping and changing, have people to leave before you can buy?”
He responded: “First of all, after relegation it is always difficult. Much less than 50% of relegated teams bounce back at the first chance. We have to be humble. We need good decisions, on incomings and outgoings. A lot to do.”

It is expected that The 49ers, once the EFL ratifies a takeover from Andrea Radrizzani, will pump cash into the club to bring players to Elland Road that Farke deems necessary. Certainly, a whole number of players need replacing.
Nat Phillips and Karl Darlow seem to be the most-obvious targets in the public domain as things stand. Plenty of other players have been linked, but it is unclear who Leeds will look to sign. Work needs to get started, and now.
