Daniel Farke responds when asked if he could be Leeds United manager for the next six years

Daniel Farke will share the dugout with Coventry manager Mark Robins on Saturday, who has been in charge since 2017 – and Farke has responded when asked if he’d like to be the gaffer in six years.

Leeds go into Saturday’s game after a loss to Sunderland, returning to Elland Road after two matches away from home. There is a feeling of frustration among fans at the moment, in the hunt for promotion.

While Leeds have won nine of the last 12 Championship games, our form is not good enough to keep up or close the gap on Leicester and Ipswich. But Farke is impressing as manager, having to deal with a lot.

In the summer, he had to contend with players wanting to go, changing his entire squad and trying to give Leeds a way of playing, good enough to challenge for promotion. He has done that, superbly well.

There has been the odd criticism surrounding his substitutions, but every Leeds fan is happy with the gaffer in the dugout right now. Asked if he would like to match Robins’ six years, he said he’d love to.

“You never know,” the German boss told Friday’s press conference, on Leeds United’s official YouTube channel. This job is always hard. Only been here six months and it feels like six years. I love it here.

“And, if I am allowed to be here in six years, something special, I would love it. It would mean we have achieved our targets. I have spoken honestly about my targets for the club,” Farke continued today.

Robins is one of the longest-serving managers in English football at the moment and deserves massive praise for the work he has done at Coventry. Leeds have not had such stability in the dugout for a while.

The last time a manager lasted six years or more was Howard Wilkinson – 1988 to 1996 – in which he masterminded Leeds to a First Division title. Simon Grayson and David O’Leary had four years in charge.

But, Farke has certainly shown that he has what it takes with a Leeds side in the Championship. Failure to go up would surely not be put on him, and he’d remain. But who knows with Leeds, time will tell.
