Daniel Farke responded when asked about Leeds sitting third in the Championship table, by saying he does not place much weight on position- and thinks we need to improve our efficiency in the final third.

Leeds came from two goals down to win 3-2 at Norwich City on Saturday, taking Farke’s men to third in the table. Just six points behind the top two – who had looked like they could run away to begin with.

Five wins in seven games has seen Farke’s side go from a Leeds team looking a bit unstable, not sure what they could do this season – to a team that judging by our recent form, will be pushing to go up.

Leeds go to Stoke on Wednesday night, who themselves have endured an up and down start to the Championship season. Leeds will be favourites to go and win a fourth league game in a row, even away.

Farke was asked about Leeds sitting in third in the Championship and whether he is thinking long-term about the race for promotion. He said he is not looking at the table, but is loving what he is seeing.

“I don’t pay too much attention to the table. I obviously like to be third more than 23rd. But for me, it is important to stabilise the club, create a winning mentality. Good performances and grind out results.

“Do this, we are automatically in a good position. Consistency in results. Clean sheets. Chances. Can bring a tight lead over the finish line. Can keep the nerves. Must improve the efficiency in our chances.”

Yes, it is early. Just 12 games into the Championship season, just over a quarter of the way into it. There is a lot of football to be played. But the way things are shaping up, Leeds look in a very good position.

It must also be remembered that Leeds started the season with a lack of clarity in terms of who would remain. Players leaving, players coming in, the Willy Gnonto and Luis Sinisterra situations at Elland Road.

Now, that is all in the past. Farke has his squad for the 2023-24 season and new signings have been bedded in. Injured players are coming back. Things are looking better and better as the season goes on.
