Daniel Farke has responded to a question on Georginio Rutter in Friday’s press conference ahead of Leeds United’s clash against Millwall – and he told the star it is important not to feel “sorry for himself”.
Rutter, 21, seems much more at home at Elland Road these days after his club-record £35m transfer from Hoffenheim in January. Having learned the language, he stayed in Yorkshire for the 2023-24 term.
This season, he has finally opened his account for Leeds – but that is his only goal in 18 appearances for the club. Rutter has shown plenty of glimpses and his goal away at Ipswich was one of utter quality.
Farke was asked about Rutter and if he had done anything specific during the break to try and improve the Frenchman’s confidence during the break – in a bid to make him more effective in the final third.
“There is always one solution – hard work. It is not a psychological issue here, it is about putting yourself into a good fitness position. Putting yourself under pressure does not help. Being a good teammate.
“Linking the play – then goals come automatically. Sometimes as a striker, you just have to watch the ball and it can go on. Concentrate on working hard, the goals will come – not about feeling sorry for himself.”

Rutter seems happier. You only have to take a glance at the club’s Tik Tok channel this week to see him having a laugh as he tries to take on a new challenge from the social media platform. Morale is there.
Now, he needs to score goals. He did so at Ipswich but it was not a typical no.9’s finish, where he is currently being used. Farke, initially, planned to use the French ace from the right. He might go there.
Especially, with the signing of Joel Piroe. Cree Summerville as a 10, Willy Gnonto on the left, Rutter on the right and Piroe up top. But it is unclear how Farke will play. Dan James and Jaidon Anthony, too.
