Planet Sport claim Daniel Farke is planning to use Chelsea star Ethan Ampadu as a central pivot in a midfield three as Leeds United close in on the £7m addition of the Wales star – a deal which, including add-ons, could reach £10m.
Ampadu, 22, has returned to Chelsea this summer after four season-long loans away from the club. He started with RB Leipzig, then Sheffield United, followed by two years in Italy. A move to Venezia, and then Spezia during 22-23.
The 43-time Wales star is now expected to move to Elland Road, with a medical pencilled in, a fee agreed and even personal terms sorted. Planet Sport say Ampadu will join Leeds for a fee of £7m, plus add-ons – taking it to £10m.
The report from Planet Sport states that it is the ‘expectation’ that Ampadu will play in the middle of the park – and not in defence. He is more than capable of both, or even full-back. He will play a defensive role, of a midfield three.

It makes sense – but what could be worrying, is that it could be a sign Leeds are planning for life without Tyler Adams. The USMNT skipper is best-suited to that role, playing behind two others when representing his nation.
So, does Ampadu’s arrival – and the intention of Farke to play him as a defensive midfielder – suggest Adams could leave? One to watch. But, there is scope for Adams to play as a 6 – or Ampadu to play in numerous other positions.
Either way, Ampadu is a wonderful signing having played in the top flight of English, German and Italian football. To get him for just £7m initially, and still only 22, is an excellent start from the Leeds board. Plenty more to do, though.
