Daniel Farke on how he really felt after hearing Jurgen Klopp was going to leave Liverpool today

Jurgen Klopp has announced he will be leaving Liverpool at the end of the season after “running out of energy” and Leeds United manager Daniel Farke has paid tribute to his fellow German gaffer.

It came out of the blue on Friday that Klopp announced, via Liverpool’s social media, that he would be leaving Anfield at the end of the current campaign. He put it down to a lack of energy to keep going.

It comes after approaching nine years in the role, and a whopping 466 matches as the club’s gaffer. In that time, the former Dortmund boss won everything – the League, both cups, the Champions League.

Even this season, Liverpool sit top of the Premier League table and have reached the Carabao Cup final. They are one of the favourites for the Europa League. Liverpool are still on fire, as Klopp nears an exit.

Asked about Klopp – who never officially crossed paths with Farke other than managing against each other in the Premier League with Norwich and Liverpool – Farke said his exit has left him “emotional”.

“I have to say I was quite emotional. He is one of my German fellas. What he has done over the last two decades is unbelievable. I always speak about quality is a long-term thing. Quality is defined over a long-term period. What Jurgen has done over two decades, he has created a legacy. Unbelievable.

“He did at Mainz, Dortmund, now Liverpool. What he has achieved is unbelievable. He will go down as one of the greatest managers to have ever worked in this game. I wish him all the best. World class, one of the greatest – as a manager, but also a human being,” Farke said, as per the club’s YouTube channel.
