Daniel Farke has insisted he was ‘always convinced’ players like Crysencio Summerville wanted to stay at Leeds United in the summer.

Farke was speaking in his pre-match press conference ahead of Saturday’s match with Plymouth Argyle, where he claimed that he felt the ‘mid and long-term’ plans of the Whites would be enough to keep them in the Championship.

Summerville has been winning all the plaudits in the last few weeks following a run of form that saw him score five goals and provide three assists during the month of October.

His fine form has already been attracting admiring glances ahead of January, with Fabrizio Romano reporting Premier League clubs are already starting to monitor him.

However, Summerville dropped a major hint on his Leeds future after winning the club’s player of the month earlier this week, insisting he wants to return to the Premier League at Elland Road.

Farke ‘always convinced’ Summerville would stay

Despite so many players leaving in the summer and the speculation that surrounded Summerville, Farke insists he always felt confident he would stay at Elland Road.

He said: “There were many players thinking about the move when I arrived. I wouldn’t blame them, quite natural, there was interest in them and exit clauses. It’s quite normal to think about the best step in your career.

“It’s natural that you overthink what’s next because the career is short. But the more we work together there was a sense that something new is growing here. The trust and bond was growing every day.

“It was tricky until the end of the window to be honest but it was still growing. I was always convinced that the mid and long term plans of this football club would attract these quality players. All the praise goes to the lads because their spirit and togetherness is amazing so far. We want to keep going.”

Unlike many of his teammates last season, Summerville and his representatives recognised that a season in the Championship could be beneficial to a young player like him.

And the 22-year-old is certainly reaping the benefits of that. Starting week in, week out, his form has got better and better, with six goals and four assists already this season.

Hopefully he can be the man who leads Leeds back into the Premier League, and then takes it by storm a better player than he was last year.
