Willy Gnonto has been described as “disciplined” by Daniel Farke in the Leeds United manager’s post-match press conference – when the German was asked to give his verdict on the Italian’s performance.
Having refused to play for the last three games against Shrewsbury, Birmingham and West Brom – the Leeds winger was back in the squad on Saturday, and in the starting line-up to take on flying Ipswich.
The Tractor Boys had made a 100% start to the season, winning all four games in league and cup. But, Leeds secured all three points. Going behind, Leeds instantly fought back – leading 3-1 on 20 minutes.
A first goal for Georginio Rutter in Leeds colours, a first of the season for Gnonto and then a debut goal from Joel Piroe. A fourth came from Luis Sinisterra – Ipswich making it 4-3 in the final few seconds.
Asked following the match for a verdict on the Italy star’s display, Farke was impressed with Gnonto’s on-pitch discipline – certainly, much more impressive than it has been off the pitch in recent weeks.
“To score, but even more, his workload, the second half. Disciplined. Helped the team to dig in, grind out a result. Needs to keep going. Think about the team as well as his game. Willing to put such a shift in.”

What a result for Leeds. Given the adversity over the last few weeks, for Leeds to go to Ipswich – who at this early stage were top of the table before the day’s games kicked off – and win, was very impressive.
The front four on paper before the game looked immense, and certainly, it proved to be the difference. All four finding the back of the net. Gnonto superb, as were Sinisterra, Rutter and new signing Piroe.
