Daniel Farke has confirmed Helder Costa wants to leave Leeds United this summer.
Farke was speaking in his post-match press conference following Leeds’ defeat at Birmingham City this afternoon, where he was asked about a number of different players’ situations.
Leeds were able to name a bench of just eight players at St Andrews which included two goalkeepers and a number of young players.
It has been apparent throughout the summer that Costa is someone likely to move on and has not even been handed a squad number for the season ahead.
Costa has spent the last two years on loan at Valencia and Al-Ittihad respectively but despite Leeds’ lack of options, was not part of the squad at Birmingham today.
Farke confirms Costa wants Leeds exit
Farke says he is only willing to pick players who want to be at Elland Road and Costa is among those who have asked to leave.
He said: “Quite open with Helder he wants to leave the club. Beginning of pre-season not in the plans. Solution to him. All other players important we give chances. Want to see players grabbing their chance.
“Have to feel you are fully committed. Chance to be picked. If I am not happy with their performance in training then they will not be picked.”
This isn’t too much of a surprise but it could certainly be argued that Costa could’ve offered far more than some of the players in the squad today.
Leeds now have too many players at the club who just aren’t committed and the next three weeks are going to be vital if this season is going to amount to anything.
