Leeds United picked up a fifth win in a row on Wednesday over Norwich as Daniel Farke’s side keep the pressure on Ipswich and Southampton – and Junior Firpo has played a part in that run of form.
Firpo, 27, came into the starting XI for the first of this run of five wins against Birmingham City. He has retained his place against Peterborough, Cardiff, Preston and then on Wednesday, a 1-0 win v Norwich.
The left-back is finally starting to show the kind of form that many had expected of him when he joined the club in 2021 from Barcelona. Indeed, he admits that he is the happiest he has been since joining us.
A run of four assists in those five games, as well as four clean sheets in those five games – conceding only once against Preston. Firpo is now first choice on the left side of Farke‘s defence, at the moment.
Speaking after the 1-0 win over Norwich in his post-match press conference, Farke shared his delight with Firpo. He admits he has had to be patient with the defender, but it is now paying off for the lefty.
“I had to be patient because I had to wait five months to get him back. Always had different setbacks, but never lost belief in himself and his body. Back for several weeks,” Farke said, when discussing Firpo.
“One of our experienced players who have seen a lot. He’s more mature. To have these players is crucial. Many assists in the last games. Defensive steel today, against Rowe. Pleased we have him back.”

He was excellent again, and Firpo was unlucky not to lay on a fifth assist in five games when his chipped cross was sent wide by Patrick Bamford – who attempted an overhead kick. Bamford got the only goal.
Firpo’s form has caught the eye of Real Sociedad this month but he looks set to remain at Elland Road for the time being, entering the final 18 months of his contract. Interesting to see if he gets a new deal.
