Dan James finds himself in the spotlight at Leeds.

The Wales international has started on the bench in his last five Premier League outings, with many eager to see him reintroduced to the starting XI.

James strengthened his case for a start over the international break with two impressive displays for Wales, both assisting and scoring a goal as the Dragons beat Liechtenstein and North Macedonia.

Who should start on the right for Leeds United?

Now, it has emerged that Dan James is on a run at Elland Road no Leeds fan has seen since the days of Eddie Gray.

Dan James on track to beat historic Eddie Gray record at Leeds United

As revealed by Jonny Cooper for Opta, the Leeds No.7 is unbeaten in his last 33 starts at Elland Road.

No player has recorded such a run since Gray, who made 40 starts without defeat at Elland Road between 1971 and 1975.

Impressively, James can also boast 15 goals in these 33 starts, a fine record which equates to roughly a goal every two games.

In total, the £25m arrival from Manchester United in August 2021 has scored 29 goals and provided 22 assists in 132 appearances for Leeds.

Why Dan James has a strong chance of extending this record if Daniel Farke trusts him against Aston Villa

It remains to be seen whether Farke opts to drop Brenden Aaronson and start the 28-year-old on the right flank this Sunday, but history suggests it could be a wise move.

James previously tormented Aston Villa back in February 2022, scoring twice at Villa Park against largely the same defence Unai Emery fields today – Pau Torres replacing Tyrone Mings is the only change.

The man born in Kingston upon Hull should also be full of confidence returning to Thorp Arch after his goal and assist for Wales, something Farke should look to take advantage of by reintroducing him to the starting XI.
