Phil Hay says having Georginio Rutter at Leeds United is almost like having a ‘cheat code’ in the Championship.
Hay was speaking on the latest episode of the Square Ball Podcast where he was discussing the impact Rutter has had so far this season for Leeds.
Rutter registered his third assist for the campaign against Queens Park Rangers on Wednesday night, with his crisp through ball finding Crysencio Summerville, who finished off well.

Each of his assists have all been of a really high level for different reasons, while the two goals he has also scored were both excellent finishes.
Rutter endured a tough start to life at Leeds following his January move but with regular game time in a position he enjoys, is getting better game by game.
Hay says Rutter a ‘cheat code’ for Leeds
Previewing this weekend’s game against Bristol City, Hay believes Rutter is now consistently looking a ‘cut above’ most other players on the pitch, and is a ‘cheat code’ for Daniel Farke at this level.
He said: “Yeah, and he also looks like he can play pretty much anywhere across the front. He’s good in wide areas and just looks a cut above, some of his passing is really incisive and really hard for defenders to read and manage.
“He’s kind of like cheat code level, isn’t he? I think you will have on and off days with him. You will have days where it doesn’t really work and flow for him, but on the days that it does go well, he’ll look better and more skilful than anyone else on the pitch.”

It is hard to disagree with Hay’s take here as defences are finding it more and more difficult to cope with his dribbling and passing ability.
Once he becomes a more consistent finisher in front of goal it is difficult to find a weakness in his game and so to have someone like him in the Championship, really is a huge advantage for Leeds.
At the rate he is going, Rutter is more than on track to hit double figures for both goals and assists, which would represent a very good season for him.
